We continue to invest sustainably across all asset classes, including public and private investments. As an independent investor, we deploy our capital across the full continuum of the capital spectrum, which allows us to play a unique role to provide much-needed capital to support high-impact yet under-funded areas where commercial investors do not or cannot go.
We believe that philanthropic capital is the most risk bearing capital with the flexibility to be deployed faster and achieve deeper impact. As we increasingly recognised the urgency of the issues the world is facing today, it was a natural evolution for RS Group to embark on an accelerated deployment phase, using philanthropic capital to drive positive change for society and the environment.
Through learning from our work over the years, we saw that there are critical financing gaps for climate issues in Asia that cannot be addressed by sustainable investing and traditional philanthropy. For one thing, many high-impact new business models require more flexible, patient and risk-tolerant capital to help prove they can be self-sustaining and thus attract follow on investment capital. This is why we have set up the Kulawan Initiative, a new programme which aims to support the field and deploy catalytic capital towards local communities-centred ventures, funds and projects across Asia that seek to be climate, nature, and community positive.
It is impossible for us to achieve impact alone. That is why we are firmly committed to collaboration and to supporting efforts to build the community of fellow impact investors, philanthropists, and other actors to aggregate all our strengths towards a vibrant impact ecosystem. If we see the need and believe we can be helpful, we try to fill gaps in the sector through building new platforms and actors to drive the needed changes in the field. In addition to the Kulawan Initiative that we are developing, our work in the past include the Sustainable Finance Initiative (SFi) and Terratai.
We aim to bolster the capacity of individuals who are motivated by creating impact for both our planet and humans, so that together, we can work towards our collective vision for the change we wish to see. With grants and direct investments, we provide funding to community organisations for their teams to have the ability and space to build their own internal capacity. With catalytic capital, we back early-stage founders to achieve their vision and impact. We are equally committed to nurturing our own team through continuous learning, reflection, and growth, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the impact ecosystem. What connects all these relationships is our approach to bring more trust and kindness to how we work together as a team and with others.
